Lapping it Up at the Logan Hotel

{CityDog Philly} The Logan, one of Philadelphia’s finest hotels, is where you and Fido will find creature comforts mixed with cosmopolitan sophistication.

As part of our many travels, CityDog Philadelphia editor Jenn Hollister visited the luxurious Logan Hotel, located in the heart of downtown Philly with her dogs Elvis and Ruger. Here is her story:

“When I arrived at the hotel with my boys, we were treated like royalty from the time we stepped out of the vehicle. Everyone at the hotel loved dogs and kept feeding the boys biscuits. My boys certainly had no problem with that kind of attention!

When we entered the room, there was a tray of cheddar biscuits with “Welcome Elvis & Ruger” drizzled on them in peanut butter. By the window were food and water bowls, and on each side of the bed were dog beds for the boys to sleep on. Talk about pampered pups! Perhaps the greatest impression was the framed photo of the boys. Who knew when I made reservation and they asked for a photo of my boys, that a framed photo would be waiting for me upon arrival.

Welcome Elvis & Ruger

After dropping our stuff at the room, we explore the hotel for a while. The lobby is so spacious that my boys and I could lounge and “people watch” for a while taking in a few adult drinks at the Commons Lounge. Next, we venture into the courtyard, which features a beautiful waterfall where you can sit and enjoy a meal and lounge for a while, too.

After hanging at the hotel for a while, it’ time to see what the local area has to offer. There are many sights to see and photograph with your dog, such as the Schuylkill River Trail. The trail runs along the river from Center City Philly through Valley Forge National Historical Park in Montgomery County. One nice item the folks at The Logan also provide is a guide to local dog-friendly destinations within walking distance to the hotel.

The guide is a great reference as it contains the names and contact information of restaurants if you want to venture out for a bite to eat with your dog, if you want to give your dog some exercise in one of the dog parks nearby, or if you want to visit one of the attractions for a great photo opportunity.

Upon returning to the hotel, it was time to grab something to eat, so we head over to the Urban Farmer, a farm to table steakhouse that brings you the best of the freshest local ingredients. Our waitress was very friendly and brought out a water bowl for the boys, which they were quick to make a mess out of, and she was happy to refill for them several times.

Welcome Elvis & RugerI ordered an appetizer for myself and while I was waiting for it, word made its way to the kitchen that there were two dogs at the restaurant and the chef made his way to our table with fresh cheddar biscuits for the boys!

When a dog-friendly establishment goes above and beyond to make dogs and their owners feel welcome, that speaks volumes to me and if I were to give an official review of the restaurant, I’d give them “5 bones out of 5.”

If you are looking for an up-scale dog-friendly hotel to stay at in center-city Philadelphia with an abundance of dog-friendly things to do in the surrounding area, I highly advise that you check out The Logan Hotel and The Urban Farmer restaurant. The employees of the hotel and restaurant are wonderful, the food is fantastic, and the service at both establishments is outstanding!
